It feels like the world has turned upside down these days. If you're like me, you are trying to figure out how to work from home, manage the kids who are out of school, make changes to keep my
Home is a place where you spend time with your family. As a dad, I understand what it’s like.
Whether you stayed home or traveled over the holidays, parents don’t really ever get to be on vacation. But we can make the most of the time we spend with our kids.
We stayed home over the holidays, and it was actually really nice! The kids were out of school, so we enjoyed some relaxing mornings and watched some movies together. The normal routine goes out the window, which can be a little disruptive. But it also breaks the cycle and the monotony of it all and gives us a chance to connect as a family, which is so important.
We spent time outside cooking on the bar-b-cue. My daughter Madison spent a lot of time on her new hoverboard. And my son Colton played with his new b-b-gun, just like in “The Christmas Story!” (The b-b-gun, not the hoverboard!)
Outings With Kids
Sometimes it's also nice to get out of the house and do something togehter. There are great places to go with kids in Shasta County. These are just a few of my favorites:
Rare Air - We took our kids to Rare Air over the holidays, and I always enjoy watching them there. It’s a trampoline park with tons of activities to keep kids busy. I am constantly hearing “Hey dad, watch this!” as they work on their flips and tricks. Such fun!
Mount Shasta Ski Park – Hitting the slopes is something our whole family can do together. I love that Mount Shasta is so close and we can get a taste of winter without bringing it home with us.
Whiskeytown Lake – Water always makes for great family time. We enjoy boating, water skiing, fishing, snorkeling (Whiskeytown is one of the clearest lakes you’ll see!). You can hang out at Brandy Creek Beach or do some hiking to see the waterfalls. NOTE: The Carr Fire has impacted this area, so check the updates before you go.
Turtle Bay Exploration Park – Along the Sacramento River, this place has it all! There are special exhibits, animals to visit, playgrounds, the arboretum and botanical gardens, and great programming for the whole family.
Back to School – Whew!
I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t thankful when the kids went back to school after the holidays! It brings back some predictability and routine, which can be good.
It’s nice when you don’t have to get them out the door every morning.
Then again it’s nice to get them out the door again!
