Getting Active And Out Of Your Comfort Zone: If I Can Do It, So Can You!
Recently, I did a Crossfit event at my gym, Palo Cedro Crossfit. I have been doing CrossFit for 14 months now, and it was a great achievement for me just to be able to do an event like this.
I hadn’t worked out consistently since I played college football. I came down with a bad case of Rheumatoid arthritis about 9 years ago which was limiting my mobility and ability to function physically. I finally got the right doctor to help me increase my quality of life with medication. Once I felt better, I decided to find a way to get active again.
I discovered this gym, and the CrossFit approach is a great fit for me.
For the event, I competed with a female partner. The goal was to do the best you could in 3 different workouts, and if you finish in the top 6 teams, you would get the chance to compete in a 4th round. Out of 15 teams, we made it to the finals!
I beat my personal squat record by several pounds, which felt great.
We got our butts kicked in the final round, but I was just happy to be there.
A New Mindset
Cross Fit Experience is one that pushes you physicially and mentally to the max.
It’s extremely challenging. But when people from all different walks of life get together and sweat together, it is inspiring. It’s a community. There are other dads and moms and people at the gym pushing each other.
It stretches you.
When you push yourself, that carries into all other areas of your life.
"When your mind is telling you you’re done, you’re really only 40 percent done." -Jesse Itzler, Navy Seal
Itzler calls that the 40% Rule. And if we don't regularly push ourselves beyond our comfort zone, we believe that we "can't" do things that we haven't done. When, in reality, we can do a lot more than we think!
I'm on this journey, and I’ve come a long way in the last year. I'm still not a thin guy, but it has had a positive impact on my physical wellbeing and on my family.
I’m always looking looking at other events and races to push the limits. I’ve got the Spartan Race coming up.
But, most importantly, I want to have fun!! That's what keeps me going back.
What is an area of your life you'd like to strech your limits and have new experiences?
What does this have to do with Real Estate?
Well, nothing really.
Except that real estate is all about relationships. I'm committed to sharing more about my approach, not only to buying and selling houses, but to life. Sharing this is stretching my comfort zone in a whole new way!
I hope you find some value in it to inspire your own journey.
